tunnel signs is the nom de plume of australian born lover, fighter and romantic, ash moses. with a taste for playing and producing records that embrace the darkness, moses parts the sea and finds the wonky middle ground between reverb drenched postpunk, hypnotic techno and spaced out disco. having previously seen releases on labels such as nein, clouded vision and hakt he now finds a home with cutters records with this 12inch with will buck. the release, titled spirits came into existence when ash relocated to new york city, a place he had long dreamed of from afar. as luck would have it he found himself sharing an apartment with another likeminded electronic musician named will buck who became his studio-partner and eventual collaborator. having bonded over a shared love of synthesizers, drum machines and all things rhythm they soon began their own freeform jam sessions which paved the way for this 12inch release. spirits shares some of the slow hypnotic swagger and dark disco drone of red axes and multi culti but with a futuristic percussive palette of the likes of four tet. the heady modulated elastic synth sounds give way to deep undulating bass patterns and tribal percussion. on the flip, the lights get turned out and the acid turned up with an ominous techno rework courtesy of hivern discs own marc pino

after a gap of seven years js zeiter returns with the next instalment in this long running, but intermittent, series of releases. the js series originally started back in 1997 with the semi-legendary js-01. this is a limited release, pressed up on dark red marbled, coloured vinyl and featuring two different interpretations of the main track.

clip gebre ep abstract places audio ubiquitous barcelona producer edu tarradas keeps on gaining a wellearned reputation as clip. tarradas was invited to the 2011 red bull music academy in madrid and has provided vigorous releases to such labels as discomaths, struments, classicworks and fina white, where the pounding “brotherhoood ep” was released to be supported by serious selectors as ben sims, truncate, anja schneider, xxxy, throwing snow, skream, luke solomon and simon baker.

cosi002 further documents an emerging, ex-germanic theory of perth dance music, typified by tracks built on techno’s stern compositional logic, but poly-functional and cross-disciplinary, wearing the stripes given to them by this most nonpareil of electronic music ecosystems.

kapote loves the funk. and he loves blaxploitation movies. the black underground cinema from the 1970ies. kapote samples dirty talk from these movies and puts it on his bass lines. melodic basslines with a heavy 1070 funk vibe. bass lines that can create a sexual tension. kapote adds a few warm, jazzy rhodes piano chords and a lot of reverbs and filtering. and the music rolls. often more like a jam then like a constructed piece of music. in the highest points this music is pure endorphin. it s 4 to the floor - but it has a soulful analogue sound. kapote says he was listening to records from old detroit label red planet and parisian downtempo pioneers motorbass and la funk mob while making this record. and yes, the vibe is there. like these guys kapote likes to build his musical trips around snippets from old funk vinyl. adding beats with vintage drum machines and creating an eclectic trip into a universe full of jazzy bits, noisy drums and dirty samples.

after a splendid, sought after 12- on pyramids of mars, an already expensive edits split ep with red axes and his highly original and acclaimed self released debut album -don t touch my sister-, rouge mecanique delivers a stone cold classic ep for discos capablanca. the psychedelic steady muscle of all will be changed aims to destroy visionary dance floors. sans scrupules is the most surprising acid banger you will likely hear this year. ampedusa / xaver defies description and its mutant sound could evoque ecstatic early minimal house references, kraut and concrete music. can i say is simply put the most elegant, languid way to say goodbye to an ep that exudes sheer brilliance and character. housed in hand silkscreened sleeves with art by capablanca. timeless applies here.

...aaaand we’re back. it’s taken us a little longer than it should have to get this third release together, but oh my was it worth the wait. we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite oddballs to construct the first 2sox compilation release, aptly titled “oddsox vol. 1”.

after a split release with chambray on ben sims’ hardgroove in 2016 greek-producer george tounisidis is set to drop a new 12” for symbolism in november entitled ‘solidarity’. with his first two cuts for the british dj’s imprint picking up support from the likes of dvs1, jackmaster and anthony parasole it’s unsurprising sims has tapped him for a full release on symbolism. since signing, tracks from ‘solidarity’ have also featured in both ben sims’ boiler room and run it red radio shows, resulting in a barrage of requests for release details which tees up the ep nicely. musically, ‘solidarity’ moves between scattered sequences and stabs (‘three clicks left’ & ‘solidarity’), muted hypnotics (‘nekyia’) and fractured acid (‘workers’) while all retaining the distinct sense of movement and dynamism that typifies symbolism releases.

le chatroom, a record label established in 2016 by the english producer kouslin, searches for the missing link between underground bass music and outer national sounds. its music is defined by the blend of synthetic and organic tones, modern / classic instruments and low- end heavy percussive rhythms....the three producers that feature on ‘lcr001’ pass on their fundamentals to conjure le chatroom’s philosophy red-handed. together they do the imprint’s name justice by handing over critical bass repertoire that’ll excite many!
